Our Club

Alexandra Park

Perched on top of a hill, and surrounded by trees and nature, our green is usually a peaceful place, until the bowlers start to shout instructions and words of praise to each other.  The aerial view of the park taken in May 1920, with only the green and a band-stand, shows a distinct lack of ‘Beechen Cliff’ school , or trees within the park.

Alexandra Bowling Club was formed in 1914.  We celebrated our Centenary in 2014.

The view over the City of Bath   is first class. Bath Abbey and the famous ‘Crescents’ are all easily viewed from the corner of the park, just past our green. There are public benches there for you to sit and while away the hours.  Not for us bowlers of course. The ‘one way’ drive around the park, and unrestricted parking allows you easy access, and to stay as long as you wish.

Free coaching

If you fancy trying your hand at bowls, then our qualified coach will be pleased to show you the way on a Monday evening at 6:15. Just come along and say hello. Many of our existing members started this way over the last few years. Some have learned very quickly, and have already progressed to win some of the various club competitions.

If, when you have had a try out, you would like to continue, or if you have played before and would like to join our club, then application is simple, and for new bowlers, our fees are reduced for the first year.

All members are required to abide by the Laws of the Sport of Bowls and observe high standards of behaviour on the green at all times. Members should take note of the Club’s etiquette guide .

Monday Night Club

During the Season which falls between April 15th and Sept 30th, the club has most Monday evenings as ‘club night’. This is the best time for new bowlers to learn or improve their game with the coach. Members play randomly among themselves each week, before retiring to the bar for a drink, hot dogs and a chat. This is the best time for new bowlers to meet and get to know our members and vice-versa. The bar manager also runs a short quiz for those who like a mental challenge.

Friday Mixed Triples League

This has now been abandoned.  Please refer to notice board for details on MSL fixtures..

Touring Teams

If you are planning a tour in our area, we would be pleased to host a game, and provide hot meals, a buffet, or cake and sandwiches as is your preference.

We are happy to play mixed games or single sex matches as is your requirement.  See our ‘Club Contacts ’ page for the necessary info.

Our licensed bar will ensure that your visit will not disappoint.
